The availability of high-quality human tissue linked to clinical data is pivotal to the success of precision medicine and translational research, and our biobank provides access to both.
Newcastle has a strong tradition of curating research tissue and developing biobanks. One of the most successful examples is the Newcastle brain tissue resource which has underpinned a myriad of world leading studies in neurodegeneration, most notably in Lewy body dementia.
Our biobank was established in 2017 as an NHS resource for research and has full biobanking Research Ethics Committee (REC) approval.
The biobank also includes a huge tissue archive of Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) blocks used for tissue preservation dating back some 25 years. To give some context to this, currently more than 200,000 blocks per year are collected and stored.
We can provide access to tissues by request. Please contact us for more information on your tissue requirements.
